When the skeptical research priest Filippo comes from the Vatican to a Limburg border village to examine a weeping statue of the Virgin Mary, he clashes hard with the traumatized village community, which clings to their miracle.
Attracted and disturbed by the silent Térèse (19) who discovered the tears, Filippo becomes embroiled in the sadness of the village and in a series of seemingly miraculous events that undermine his certainties about his vocation as a priest and as a human being.
