The Great Offensive will delve deeper into the liberation of the Southwest of the Netherlands in the autumn of 1944 and is a combination of existing and reenacted events. The series will consist of three episodes that will be shown on the EO. In addition, a cinema version of The Great Offensive is also being worked on.
“By getting into the skin of the commanders and making the strategic decisions behind the front lines clear, a confronting new light is shed on the battle and the impact on civilians and soldiers,” the makers say.
The series is directed by Victor D. Ponten, who also directed Rabat and Mocro Maffia. The screenplay was written by Maarten van der Duin, who is responsible for The Story of the Netherlands – Oranje Nassau and The Story of the Netherlands.
